Q:
How do I know which dog is right for me?
A: We will help you determine which of our dogs
have the personality and behavior characteristics which
will match and adapt most readily to your lifestyle
by reviewing your adoption
application.
Q:
How much does it cost to adopt a dog from Friends For
Pets?
A: The adoption donation is $350 for an adult dog, $400 for a dog under one year and $500 for a purebred dog under 6 months. This amount partially covers the
animals costs of altering, vaccinations, health guarantee,
and board for the time that he or she has been with
us.
Additional donations will help pay for all of the dogs
care before you adopted him and the many other dogs
that we take in and nurse back to health.
Q:
Are donations tax-deductable?
A: Yes
Q: What is your return policy?
A: If a dog is returned within 4 weeks, and the
dog is in the same or better condition, 50% of the donation
will be refunded.
Q:
Do you have any puppies for adoption?
A: Puppies
are seldom available. If you wish to have a dog younger
than 6 months and are willing to wait 6 months to a
year, we will add your name to our waiting list. If
you prefer not to wait we will be glad to refer you
to reputable breeders. Please do not buy from a pet
store, champion-bred puppies are less expensive
and far healthier than the puppy-mill animals that are
available in stores.
Q:
How many dogs do you have for adoption?
A: At
any given time, we have over 50 dogs available for adoption.
Q:
How did you ever come upon so many wonderful dogs?
A: Sad
to say, we find most of our dogs abandoned at shelters
and on the streets. These beautiful dogs have often
been neglected or treated poorly and must be nursed
back to health before we can make them available for
adoption. Most were bought at pet stores as puppies,
never trained by their owners, neglected, beat and starved
before escaping or being abandoned by these horrible
owners.
Q:
How much does it cost to you to care for one of your
dogs?
A: From
the time we rescue a dog until placing it with a new
loving family, it costs us around $200 a week. Most
dogs remain in our facility for 10 weeks for a total
cost of $2,000. We ask for a donation upon adoption
to help defray these costs. Any additional donations
are greatly appreciated.
Q:
What types of dogs do you have available for adoption?
A: We
rescue sporting breed dogs (Weimaraners, Golden Retrievers,
Dalmatians, Pointers, & Labs) who are abandoned,
mistreated, neglected, or left in pounds throughout
California and make them available for adoption to loving
families like yours.
Q:
Can I adopt more than one dog at a time?
A: It
depends on your home situation but some dogs already
have best friends at our rescue facility and we encourage
families who are interested in one to adopt both so
that they can stay together.
Q:
When can I meet the dogs you have available for adoption?
A: You
can get a sneak preview of some of the dogs we have
available right now by viewing our online
directory. Next, fill out our adoption
application and volunteer to come walk some dogs this Sunday.
